I just set this up today for a stab at soapstone carving...
It's currently looking like a bat.
The pushpin stops the drip (for now...)

Perfect timing for this thread...I'm getting very charged up to get to work on some stuff too, especally after Mom and Pop decided to hook me up for my birthday:
Can't wait to get to breaking these in....and there is a log procuring expedition scheduled for next weekend! And a little something GMAN has been guiding me with....

Some awesome new stuff in this thread - I'd buy an 8ft pendant too!
I've been slacking, but there will be some new stuff coming, and my first half a dozen chisels are on the way or here already. Now I'm just waiting on a hook-up for some totara logs to come through.......

O.k....O.k....Ok...here I go, I know i gotta go deeper..but this was my first try with an exacto knive and a piece of driftwood...and i didn't even cut myself, is that good or bad??
It's 5" tall and about an 1 1/2" in diameter.
