I just got back into town and it's off to the studio to bang out more work for this weekends Day of the Dead event in Oceanside, CA....Since I'm on a plane every week for last month, it's been all ink and watercolor for me. Here are some new ones for the show...non-tiki but it's all art all the time!
This guy was inking months ago...finally got some color on him....11x14 The Banditos Prayer
And this little guy was done last weekend at the Hollywood Day of the Dead...5x7 Sugar Swirl

ATTENTION!
ATTENTION!
the Calavera Fad
is quickly approaching its downward momentum
to be remembered as fondly as Don Ed Hardy shirts
Pogs
and Pet Rocks.....
Time to peek outside your comfort-zone
now that you've nailed
and exhausted this so-called "artistic" genre...
may i suggest TIKIs
as your next artistic focus?

ok, spent some time with Drew Brophy at his studio last weekend and was really diggin his paint pens. Picked up a pile and hurried back to the studio to give them a whirl. I'd used the deco pens before but always found them not very user friendly and having to apply coats of fixative between colors is just a pain. These Uni Poscas are waaaay better and water based.....Here is the first run at them....with process shots!
Attacking an 8x42 long board skate deck...
Finished......and Sold before it was barley dry...on to the next one!

Hope you sealed it properly!
Your skulls are actually getting better!
Yay Dental work and Toof reductions!
So didja try the Cel Animation vinyl yet?
Toe's already got some ,so get on board!
The water-based Posca pens are more user friendly, but be careful when applying them to porous materials
if you check the lower curl of the mermaid
you can see it seeping beyond the borders..
a couple pre-coats of sealant on the board before the Posca would solve that!

As always I love the progress shots. Still blows my mind how you get from the start to the end of a project.
Awesome stuff!

I like this one lots, Dave! Is it done entirely with paint pens?
Ditto Kinny's comment on the smaller teeth.

Thanks guys...these pens are pretty great and are the answer to my flying every week schedule that I'm rocking till the second week of January. Here is another study I finished up last night...."El Jefe"
8x10
Painted on an old bandits photo I found, photoshopped, mounted and glazed over....

Well the traveling has limited me to more paint pen work and sketching but here is a smattering of stuff...and there is a pile of new paintings just waiting to be done...
Here is the pile of commissions, sketches and smallish projects from the last month...

Dave really love the small round framed pieces.
Your Day of the Dead/Sugar Skulls are my favorite but I am loving that samaurai.
Very versatile and would love to see more.
