Tikiman and I escaped from Danville Saturday night to continue our quest to complete the Forbidden Island menu. We were delighted to share a Monkeypod. At first, we politely traded sipping time ("Mmmm, nice. Here, try it." That quickly degenerated into piggish slurps. And then it was gone. So off we searched our hometown for Tamarind Juice and Tamarind Syrup. The lovely lady at the Indian market said her suppliers have been out of these items for awhile now (hmmm? recent surge in Monkeypod home mixers out here in the burbs?). Larry at Wholefoods found Natural Tamarind Concentrate. Its lovely, similar to apple butter but more tart and less sweet. Still, my home concoction is not up to par. Any advice?

My friend and I are heading to the Trader Vics Emeryville for dinner and a drink on Saturday and then on to Forbidden Island. I hope to catch a Monkeypod then too....they sound addictive.
