I recently picked up the Coral 10" with 8 recordings she did in Argentina (pre-Capitol). Some websites claim that she recorded "at least 18" tracks during these sessions.
What else did she record before Capitol, and what else was released in Peru, Argentina, or anyplace for that matter?
Happy birthday Yma!

Yma has what may be the most unique voice in recording history. Thankfully she chose to apply it to exotic jazz. Thanks Yma and happy birthday.

I read somewhere that she didn't get on so well with Les Baxter . Apparently he took credit for ideas that were hers . This is according to her .

She didn't get along with her other arranger either (her husband).

I cranked up Yma on the home stereo yesterday, and our little dog soon started howling/singing along to those high notes! It was hilarious. "Howl of the Xtabay" indeed.

So Jeff, maybe you should change the topic title? ; -)
We (Primativa in Hi-Fi) will be paying tribute to the Queen of Exotica tonight at PKNY by infusing the bar with Xtabay!
Thanks for pointing out this update.
