I have been into surf music for many years, and as a result was introduced to exotica a few years ago. However, I am still unfamiliar with alot of the bands/CDs available in the genre. I have several of the Ultra-Lounge series CDs, and a few Martin Denny albums (CD and vinyl), but thats about it. I want to expand my collection and awareness of Exotica. I've begun checking out a few of the modern exotica bands like the Martini Kings, and Clouseaux, along with the classics like Martin Denny, Robert Drasnin, ect. What I would like to know is what are your top favorite exotica CDs that I should be looking for? It can be classic or modern bands, but please dont list surf bands because I'm 99.9% sure that I already own it. Thanks in advance for the help. I greatly appreciate it.

Glenn

Beyond that, Here's my list.

Classic era

All the Arthur Lyman stuff, but start with a collection.

Gene Rains - All Four Records are amazing.

Rex Kona and His Mandarins - Wild Orchids : This is schmaltzy / cheezy and all the things that great lounge music should be. The version of "Patricia" is probably one of my favorite songs from the genre.

Alex Keack - Surfers Paradise

Don Ralke - Savage and sensous bongos - A MUST HAVE

Contemporary :

Waitiki : Rendezvous in Okonkuluku

Blue Hawaiians : Sway (you probably have this already)

That's jjust off the tp of my head. Some of the ones I listed are out nof print, but are available on Xtabay World for download.
