Man Fatally Stabs Himself While Cooking, Young Sons Witness Fatal Accident
WYFF4.com ^ | 3/3/08; updated 3/6/08 | Unattributed
" Chief Deputy Coroner Charlie Boseman said that Michael Downing, 32, was cooking food for himself and his 8- and 10-year-old sons on Sunday afternoon while his fiance was at work.
Downing burned himself, jerked his hand away and accidentally stabbed himself with a steak knife that he was holding in his hand, Boseman said.
Downing was able to call 911 and explained what had happened. Downing's 10-year-old son got on the phone with the dispatcher and followed instructions to try to save his father.
His son, Jed Lynch Downing, said, "He fell on his back. I think that knocked him out. Then he just got back up. He was trying to stay with us. He didn't want to leave us. He knew that we loved him."
Downing was conscious when paramedics arrived at his home on Northlake Drive in Anderson. He was transported to AnMed emergency room where he later died.
Boseman said that the knife had pierced Downing's heart, causing his death. He said that the knife went between Downing's ribs, 2 to 3 inches into his chest.
Family members said Downing had accomplished a major goal over the past year by losing 150 pounds. "

Anybody care to figure out how this could possibly have happened . I just can't imagine the scenario .

Gotta be careful whenever holding a sharp knife. The response to the burning was involuntary and a powerful jerk. Must always make sure that the blade is pointed away from the body.
Anybody know what he was cooking?
