It's called "Birth of the Cool": California Art, Design, and Culture at Midcentury and it's at the Oakland Museum of California thru Aug. 17th. No tiki (save for a Shag book in the gift shop), but fantastic photos of architecture, paintings, furniture, and more.

Don't miss it!

The exhibition "catalog" book is also highly recommended. In overall heft and content it has a closer resemblance to the BOT than the typical show catalog. The book is on Amazon and places like that (under "Birth of the Cool"), with a nice Karl Benjamin painting on the cover.

The book is close to being out of print. Get one if you can at Oakland.
The exhibition will go to Austin, TX next.

I'm going to go to the exhibit this Saturday. I hope to get some ideas for decorating my soon-to-be new condo (fingers crossed!) probably after I'll make my way to Conga, TV and/or FI.
PM me if you are interested in meeting me there.
