Well, it's not a station exactly, but it is a streaming archive of my weekly lounge/exotica/crime jazz radio show "The Bachelor Pad" via Live365. Here's the link to the archive: http://www.live365.com/stations/71967?play. Playlists can be found here: http://www.javasbachelorpad.com/radio.html.

Mai Taiís John T. on LuxuriaMusic.com starting May 2...

"And for my mid-life crisis, I decided to become a radio dj..."

Yup, after more than a year of making guest appearances on the Lounge King Show here in Montreal, I have been asked to put together a short (15 minutes) weekly show for LuxuriaMusic.com Internet Radio.

Like my recent Lounge King appearances, the show will be called "Thrifting for Tunes" and it will be recorded behind the bar here at my Mauna Loa Lounge. The show features an eclectic selection of music from here, there and everywhere... From thrift shops, to record stores, to church bazaars, to the World Wide Web Ė if itís out there, itíll make its way into the lounge and out to you on Thrifting for Tunes.

The first show is just a little intro to the Thrifting for Tunes concept and a sampling of various types of music that may pop up on the show in the future. Other episodes to come (in May) are more thematic and feature early electronics, spaghetti western soundtracks, film noir music, and Italo-American exotica.

Whenever possible Ė which means almost always Ė each segment will end with an exotica track or something from the Polynesian Pop repertoire.

Why am I doing this? Well, because they asked. Plus, I'm always listening to music anyway, so I figured, why not share it...?

Complete info can be found at
www.luxuriamusic.com. Iíll be posting playlists on the TUNES! page at www.maitaionline.com (the info there now is about my Lounge King appearances; it will be updated shortly).

So there you have it...
Thrifting for Tunes
LuxuriaMusic.com
Tuesdays at 10am Pacific / 1pm Eastern & 6pm Pacific / 9pm Eastern
Starting May 2...

Love the thread!

Jet Set Planet is available via a real audio stream at
http://www.jetsetplanet.com
I play exotica, bongo music, European and American soundtracks from the 60s and 70s, latin tunes, songs of the jet set, beyond-the-grave vocal stylings, crime jazz, and Stereo Dynamica.

The show airs on KFAI-FM http://www.kfai.org a terrific community radio station that was just awarded - for the 6th year in a row - the Best Radio Station in the Twin Cities by "City Pages," the arts and entertainment newspaper of Minneapolis/St. Paul. Congrats KFAI!

mahalo,
I,Z

I've been enjoying the "Retro Cocktail Hour" on Kansas Public Radio for years. Bad name, great show. Description from the web site:
Quote:
Here you'll find vintage recordings from the dawn of the Hi-Fi Era - imaginative, light-hearted (and sometimes light-headed) pop stylings designed to underscore everything from the backyard barbecue to the high-tech bachelor pad.

Real player software required.

http://www.kpr.ku.edu/retro/

I'm a member of Live365 and enjoy listening to the Swank Pad Lounge, The Bachelor Pad, Vegas Vic's Tiki Lounge and Naked City, The Green Lounge, SounDelicious, and fluffertraX - porn soundtracks! Plus about 30 great other stations that play old country, rockabilly, 60s soul, psych, garage, etc.

In heavy rotation through Airtunes in my pad right now is Ponderosa Stomp Radio on Live365.

The Retro Cocktail Hour is indeed awesome!

I, Zombie's Jet Set Planet consistantly blows my mind - if you haven't already definitely give it a listen. He sure has an eye (and ear?) for those lost and forgotten gems.

I just wish I knew how to get my basement bar area wired so that I could listen to the streams coming from my computer upstairs. =(

Do you have WiFi in your house? Do you have a PC or Mac?

If you have WiFi and a Mac you can get at Airport Express for $120 and connect it to a stereo receiver in your basement (I have found good inexpensive ones at thrift stores), then play live365 and other streaming audio with iTunes and hear it through the stereo speakers.

For the PC there are similar products like the Soundbridge by Roku that work with a WiFi connection.

No WiFi. Mac.
I'm thinking I might just get some wireless speakers. Any advice on those? It's not IDEAL, but it's closer to what I can afford these days.
