I am looking for a place to buy Rattan Furniture in the Bay Area preferably the peninsula or south bay. Something other than Cost Plus and Pier One. Thanks

Check craigslist. I see rattan sets (living room and dining room) all the time.

I would pay money to kick that guy in the nuts.

I just wish he could have one of those Antiques Roadshow moments where one of the Keno brothers tells the person that refinishing the old, darkened, dirty, original finish has lowered the value of the piece by $100,000.

ANTIQUE DECO RATTAN ARM CHAIR - $85 (novato)
Reply to: sale-836250290@craigslist.org [?]

Classic Rattan armchair reworked.
• Used to be bamboo color, NOW it is repainted matte black
• Used to have ugly loud yellow flower upholstery, NOW reupholstered with fabulous black/white ZEBRA!
• Cushion covers easily removable, sewn with zippers
• Added heavy particle board base to give weight and create bottom for legs (see pic)
• Legs added, silver from IKEA (see pic).

Needs a bit of a touch-up. Incredibly comfortable and clean fabric. Striking and classic addition to any home.

Email OR come see it this weekend at our YARD SALE at
873 Tamalpais near Novato Blvd.
8am-5pm, Sat/Sun

"Used to be bamboo color, NOW it is repainted matte black"
That line KILLS me!

So here's a question... What would be an acceptable treatment for this chair now? Or any other rattan piece defiled by thick coats of paint? Sure, if you have the $$ you could have them dipped in that acid/stripper stuff but even that's not a guarantee of removing all paint. That rattan can be rather thirsty you know.

I think it might be interesting to give such a pice a few coats of shiny red, like a Chinese lacquer, and maybe detail the wrappings with black or gold.
Any other thoughts?

Aloha,
