Come on out and see The Hot Rod Hucksters rip it up in their very first appearance at the Chef on Saturday July 21st.

Here's their story...

It has been said that all rockabilly music sounds the same, but The Hot Rod Hucksters have been playing truly unique music since 2003. The band is comprised of four hard working guys from Chicago who call to mind an unholy amalgamation of Eddie Cochran, Johnny Burnette, The Cramps, and sometimes even the Stray Cats. Neo-Rockabilly, or whatever you want to label it, the music speaks for itself.

The band's loyal fans have seen them play with hard rocking psychobilly bands like The Quakes, Rocket 350 (Atlanta) and Big John Bates and the Voodoo Dollz (Vancouver), and traditional rock-a-billy bands like The Hi-Qs (Detroit), Cave Catt Sammy (Texas), The Riptones (Chicago), The Reverend Horton Heat, Lee Rocker (of the Stray Cats), and Robert Gordon And The Gang They Couldn’t Hang (featuring Chris Spedding of Roxy Music, Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols and Slim Jim Phantom of the Stray Cats) and The Brian Setzer Rockabilly Riot!

In February 2005, the Hot Rod Hucksters released their seven song EP "Four Deuces and 3 Gears," a title that references their passion for hot rods (all of the boys have at least two). The CD includes four original songs and three covers, and it reflects the band's diverse influences from blues, classic and alternative country, surf, and of course, rockabilly and psychobilly. Their second disc released late in 2007, “Beer, Songs, and Mediocre Broads” features 12 songs that are sure to have you tapping your feet, spinning a wrench and dancing with your favorite gal.

In 2010, they made a pilgrimage to Sun Studios in Memphis to record their latest cd, Party at Sam's Place.

Be sure to check out the new food and drink menu, plus specials in the bar as well. Saturday night the drink special is an Easter Islander Glass w/ Tropical Drink of Choice for the patriotic price of $17.76. So come on out, have some pupus, a tropical libation or two and enjoy The Hot Rod Hucksters!

See ya'll at the Chef!

PS. Remember to purchase your "Fong Fest" tix while you're there!!

Unfortunately due to the fact that we just had Fong Fest, it was decided to pass on the 3rd this month. Be sure to stop in anyway if you can, great food, great drinks and great ambiance.

Aloha & Howdy Ya'll!

After taking September off due to "Fong Fest", the 3rd Saturday "Evening in Shangri-La" monthly event is back at the Chef!

This month featuring from up Milwaukee way, Crazy Rocket Fuel...

..."If cornering the market on being an all woman, hyper-awesome, old school, sawdust on the floor Rockabilly band were illegal, the Milwaukee quartet, Crazy Rocket Fuel would most definitely be Taycheedah bound. All things considered, hearing their debut album Volume 1 and seeing these beautiful songstresses sing the tunes live are two totally different animals. Lead singer and guitarist Kari Bloom is sultry in every single way. From her platinum blond hair to her deep red lips, she can melt a crowd with surgeon-like precision. Backed by songwriter, singer and lead guitarist Ginny Wiskowski, Laura Proeber on the stand-up bass, and Debbie Bricault tanning the skins, CRF is more than just combustible, they are molten hot magma!" ~ Peter Coffinail

It's also Sweetest Day so bring your honey out for a FUN filled evening! As usual the Chef will be running specials that night too, so come on out enjoy some fabulous eats, a tasty tropical libation or 3, and check out Crazy Rocket Fuel as the gals tear it up at the Chef!

See all at the Chef!

This month's "Evening in ShangriLa" 3rd Saturday event 11/17 will be featuring the debut of The Butterfields at the Chef...

...From their website:
The Butterfields are a trio of seasoned musicians from the Chicago area. Their love for surf, rockabilly and 60s era rock and roll radiates through their song selections and interpretations of them. Some of these tunes are classics and familiar to anyone's ear while others are more obscure. Any of these songs remind the listener of how great music was - back in its heydey.
From their FB page:
Surfabilly Psychedelic rock band that produces hallucinations and apparent expansion of consciousness.

Great food and drink menu, plus specials in the bar as well. Saturday night's drink special is any non-overproof rum tropical with your choice of TIKI GLASS for $17.00. So come on out, have some pupus, a tropical libation or two and enjoy the Psychedelic sounds of The Butterfields! Stay tuned for FREE raffle photo coming soon!

See ya'll at the Chef!
