I was wondering about a post by Casey which suggested that the Tropics in Palm Springs is the most Tiki Hotel in the world.
Such may be right, although I might give greater weight to a hotel closer to the ocean. Nevertheless, what would be the top 5 or 10.
Here is my list:
1. Royal Kona, Big Island - with Don the Beachcomber
http://www.tikiroom.com/tikicentral/bb/viewtopic.php?topic=17772&forum=2
2. Hawaiiana Hotel, Waikiki - There are plenty of Tiki and lush vegetation.
3. Waikiki Beach Hotel (Resort Quest) - Featuring my favorite Tiki Bar of all: Tiki's
http://www.tikiroom.com/tikicentral/bb/viewtopic.php?topic=6469&forum=2&14
4. Ka'anapali Beach Hotel, Maui - an enormous Ku statute on the grounds and feature a "Tiki Terrace" and the "Tiki Bar."
http://www.tikiroom.com/tikicentral/bb/viewtopic.php?topic=19939&forum=16&hilite=Ka'anapali%20Beach%20Hotel
5. Hyatt Kauai - The restaurant Tidepools features an two giant Tikis in the lobby, and one overlooks the lagoon, water and Tiki torches when dining there.
6. Ocean Palms - North County San Diego - Tiki cut into Palms
http://www.tikiroom.com/tikicentral/bb/viewtopic.php?topic=9971&forum=2
7. Caliente Tropics
http://www.tikiroom.com/tikicentral/bb/viewtopic.php?topic=31752&forum=1&hilite=caliente
8. Hotel Bora Bora - South Seas romantic adventure

9. Moorea Pearl Resort & Spa
10. Hotel Moloka'i

Oh, that's a shame! My husband and I used to wander over to the courtyard from the Whaler for drinks. What happened to it?
Christiki, I agree with you on the Royal Kona!
And no list would be complete without the Tiki Resort in Lake George - http://www.tikiresort.com/index.html - which will be hosting Ohana this year!

Is it somewhere else on the property?
How can the KBH have a Tiki Terrace without Tiki?

Naomi's friend Megan discovered yet another classic Tiki caravansary: The Royal Hawaiian Motel on La Brea avenue!
Here is her enthusiastic report:
"Luckily, on the way home (from not getting on a flight to Maui), we discovered paradise right down our street.
Free high speed internet, a real swell tiki bar and they even accept our discover card !
Livin' LaBrea Loca !"

How could I forget about the Royal Hawaiian as I live only about 2 miles away!
And they have a great Tiki in front.
There is also the Tiki Motel in Tucson:

Yes, there are tikis there too. Also, one of the cheapest places to stay in Kona, but no A/C...It gets hot there in Kona by the ocean.

No photos on the site, but there is lots of Tiki and Hawaiian there (like alot of Kona) .....built in the 60's/early 70's....The Lobby is especially cool.

Torches blaze every night at the entrance....Again, another very old Hawaiiana place, but it's not well maintained, so I wouldn't advise staying there. They do have a Luau, tho' which you can purchase tickets for separately. Stayacross the street at the seaside for cheaper....It's more no frills, but a little cleaner, and much less expensive.

I've not been to the Royal Kona, and have seen very mixed reviews of both their food and drinks. However, as the holder of the rights to "Don the Beachcomber(r)". I do resent their hijacking the name for their remodeled bar. This will be dealt with one day.

Aloha Art:
I have been to Don the Beachcomber and the quality of the Tiki drinks; the highh TIPSY factor; the dramatic Tiki decor; the Tiki torches; the incredible ocean view; all would made Don proud. There is a reason that I selected The Royal Kona as No. 1.
Instead of bringing litigation against it (in its home court jurisdiction), I would embrace it.

Tiki at Ka'anapali Beach Hotel is still on the grounds. They are rearranging the property around the Tiki Bar for bigger area for the hula halau competition that is there a few times every year. This is becoming an entertainment area for our halaus and other island entertainers and not so much as a bar area for visitors.

Nice. When I was in Waikiki, the local halaus performed at Kuhio Beach Park, and it would be great to see something similar in Ka'anapali. The Hula Bar & Grill had a former Miss Hawaii perform the hula there, but as nice is the soloist was, there is nothing to compare to a halau!
I know the staff of the KBH performs in the morning in the lobby, and sometimes in the evenings on the stage.
