GROG, thank you sir...
I am very proud of this guy. Whenever he was commissioned, thought of all the mailboxes I'd seen other guys do, and the mailbox itself always looked like an afterthought....that, in a way, kinda killed the "flow" of the piece... I wanted to make the mailbox so subtle, that at first glance, one would not immediately say "oh, cool mailbox"...but instead,to look at it for a second and say "hey....that's a little mailbox in that tiki's mouth.".... I wanted it to be a tiki first, and a mailbox second, and not the other way around. I think I pulled it off....
Anyway, no time to BASK in the GLORY of the MAILBOX.... this damned headdress ain't gonna SWIRL ITSELF... lol...

Kickass mailbox tiki, Jeff.
I like the direction you took, unique indeed.
I think the mailbox tiki is a rite of passage for any veteran tiki carver. You've gotta do at least one in your career.

well, we're startin' to see some daylight in between the cinnabuns...
but in retrospect, a big wet piece of cypress, fresh from the sawmill, would have been a better choice for this piece...the dried palm is not the easiest thing to put detail on with a chisel... it's crumbly as hell in there...
but I have way too much into it at this point... I gotta just ride it out & do the best I can with what I've got..

inching forward...
I think I'm gonna fill the big crack with 2 part epoxy & clamp it....
Every time I smack a chisel with the mallet I'm afraid it's just gonna break in half...lol..

oh yeah andy, once I really get into him I'll definitely be bustin' out the little guys...
so here's what I did yesterday.... and wow, July in Florida is always brutal, but yesterday was supposedly, like the hottest day this year. I gave out after about 5 hours of the sun beating on me,.. gotta go back and put the chisels on him today....
