Can any of the liquorati shed any light on this rum? Picked up a bottle of today in Oregon for $17 (state says it's a "limited listing").
As you can see by the picture, it's light-colored, but not white. BevMo has this description: "This incredibly complex, aged rum is best enjoyed in a snifter, unheated, as an after-dinner digestif."
I had a quick taste at home, and found the Special Reserve surprisingly smooth for a light rum. Definitely worth my $17.

Special Reserve is a US only product that was commissioned by a buyer many years ago and no I spoke to at Mount Gay seems to remember who it was anymore- they just keep making it. It's got a slightly higher pot still component than Eclipse and uses no caramel color.

I really didn't expect much from this rum when Martin served it at his Oasis seminar. But when I tasted it I was surprised by it's depth. I usually don't find that in light rums. The price makes it a great buy. Now I just need to find it...
