Supposedly, it's not about the taste....

From the auction listing:
The value of the item is in the collectible container, not its contents.
The container has not been opened and any incidental contents are not intended for consumption.
The item is not available at any retail outlet, and the container has a value that substantially exceeds the current retail price of the alcohol in the container.

If I'm buying some rum for that much.

Free Shipping? Big freakin deal!
For that price they should have Lala in a bikini, deliver it to your doorstep.

You could either stock your bar with every spirit/liqueur/cordial/apertif/syrup/juice called for in the Grog Log, Intoxica!, Taboo Table, Sippin Safari AND Vintage Spirits and Forgotten Cocktails, or you could buy one bottle of rum. Hmmmm... Let me think about that one.

The reason the above statement is in the auctions is to appease the Ebay gods. You are not allowed to sell liquor on Ebay. However you are allowed to sell collectible bottles. If they happen to have something inside, that is just an added bonus.

I don't think the cork looks in particularly bad shape considering its age, but maybe someone with more experience should give a more educated opinion.
