Does anyone know anything about this?

SHAG THE STORE
725 N. Palm Canyon Rd.
Palm Springs, CA

The new store is referenced on
http://www.mmoderngallery.com/. It's mentioned in all of the Shag events going on in a couple of weeks, coinciding with Modernism Week.

No, I haven't heard anything about it. I was thinking about making a visit to the gallery this weekend, I'll try to enquire within there.

Shag The Store is indeed a project by the same owners of M Modern. They have quite the inventory of Shag, so a solo store could make sense. It'll be right in the heart of the uptown design district which is perfect - great mid-century furniture stores, Design Within Reach, and fantastic restaurants.

Currently, there's an entire room devoted to Shag at M Modern. This will free up some space there so M can feature other artists.

From the sounds of it, there'll be several Shag related events this year at Modernism Week.

as I hate to tut my own horn, I have to say this...... As someone who has had an event joined with M Modern in the past. (TIKI CALIENTE -M MODERN'S 5 year anniversary show) I am very good friends with Jay and MiShell from M Modern who were looking down town for the first Shag Shore.

But the fact was this.....

in my opinion........and not loved by the modernism group from Palm Springs.

Down Town is DEAD and TOO MUCH MONEY for the location because of the whole historical significance aspect of Palm Springs.

I told Jay from M Modern to look at the storage area next to my job at Trio (707 Palm Canyon) to Put the first Shag Store.

First of all.....

we have an average of over 300 people on any weekend night .

Plus..... all the mid century furniture shop"s surround us.

Plus,... 1/4th the rent

Please stop by modernism weekend were I will be bartending the Shag lunch party at TRIO and Drinking at the the Tropics Art show later that night.

Keep'in TIKI alive!!!!!!!

Da

I am FREAKIN' excited about this. I live NO where close to Palm Springs, but I'm willing to make a special trip to the Shag store at least several times during the year.

Also, I'm so excited about Shag's new style. I do miss the old style, but I love the new one too --for different reasons.

My mom is so funny. For some reason, she has a copy of TheBottomLine magazine, and there's an add for the TRIO lunch. She woke me up this morning to show me, and saying how she wanted to take me. I opened one eye, and said "I know, I already made reservations for 3" lol but bless her heart for trying. But also in the mag is another add for the shag store. Here's what it entails:

Shag The Store Grand Opening - Palm Springs Modernism Week
Feb 12-15, 2010 + 725 N. Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs
76o.322.3400 -
shagthestore@gmail.com - www.shagthestore.com

Events:
Feb 12 - Opening Recaption at M MODERN: 8:00-10:00 pm
Feb 12 - After Party at THE TROPICS: 10:00 pm
Feb 13 - Shag Lunch at TRIO: 12:00-2:00 pm
Feb 13 - Modcom Pre-Party at THE TROPICS: 4:30-6:30 pm
Feb 14 - Book Signing at THE RIVIERA RESORT: 11:00 am-1:00 pm

Rory, I'm sure I'll be seeing a whole lot of you during that time period lol. Unfortunatly everybody, I tried the website and nothing came up, so idk what's going on with that. maybe it'll be launched by the first of Feb.

Did anybody get pictures of the store? My aunt only took pictures of the prints that were on display and not the epic wall at the end of the store

I peaked into the store tonight; it is "sorta" open for Modernismweek. The store is right on main drag, Palm Canyon next to Trio restaurant (which is also showing Shag's artwork). There are probably 25 pieces on display; it is not entirely finished yet. No furniture except a Jacobsen swan chair in red on an orange shag carpet in the back next to the register, and a cool tiki wall (orange irregular stone wall ala your favorite tiki hotel/restaurant with a large brown brown tiki face on it - they are in a "lifelike shag" style - so , not your pure wood/tiki look but instead , Shag's signature cartoony look brought into reality). I was at the M Modern gallery where some of his work is on display right now; his partner (store operator?) said something about them trying to keep the store open this week for modernism week but that the grand opening was maybe in May?

I'm eyeballing an artist proof myself right now - we'll see!

Hi Everyone,

Yes, we have unofficially opened the first retail store dedicated to the artist SHAG. The store is simply called SHAG and the official grand opening will be on Saturday, May 8th, 2008. We did a soft opening during the Modernism Week here in Palm Springs as I was one of the founding members of Modernism Week and we thought it would be cool to provide a sneak peek for people to see. The store is still quite a ways from being complete, however, the front of the store should look just like the rendering by SHAG on the website at
http://www.shagthestore.com . Please be sure come out for the opening as we will have many new SHAG items at that time that will be exclusive to the store and SHAG will be present that weekend (of course).

Note: Please sign up for our email list at http://www.mmodern.com to be added to the email list until we do a dedicated email list for SHAG. Also, there is no shopping cart on the http://www.shagthestore.com web site, however, you can purchase SHAG prints carried there from http://www.mmodern.com and all current prints from http://www.shagmart.com too.

We hope to see you there!

Thanks, Jay Nailor & MiShell Modern

Nice!

I like the new style of his paintings, monochrome grey, very modern!

No, seriously: good looking. Palm Springs has so many amazing homes that are Shag paintings come to life, it is the ideal home for him!
