Ok, I admit it sounds kinda odd. A while back I watched a fairly grainy B&W video from the early 60's of some hep cat (Minghus?) performing jazz wearing sunglasses that had bamboo temples.
I have never seen these before, and if anyone knows where to get some please let me know.
I figured I might have to resort to make/modify a pair myself. I'd stick to straight temples (like my aviator sunglasses) with slight inward curves for simplicity.
I'd need some say 1/4 dia bamboo that was very 'knotty'. Wrong word I know (nodule'y?), but the bamboo I have at home has the nodules/knots too widely spaced (4-5 inches apart) for me to get the effect I'm after.
What kind/species of close knotted bamboo should I look for?

What you are looking for is Wangi, or bamboo root. (same thing)
You can get this from Franks cane and rush.
Oh yeah, Virani here on TC made a pair for himself.
Think I saw it on his blog site can't remember.
They were VERY cool.
Virani post a pic.

Bamboo root on the sides, the style isn'the best but is this what your looking for?

Beachbumz, those are damn cool I say!
I'm not locked in yet, but I'd be heading for something more in the vintage line, say Shuron or Willson frames. This will take some time, but is something I have wanted for a while.
So I just need to dig up my neighbours bamboo?
