Lucas, it all sounds terrific! But you should really seriously consider putting out a Dark Continent CD. Great composition and musical inspiration trumps any concerns about production quality or polish every day, and these are great compositions! And to my ears, this all sounds extremely professional, and whatever "raw" elements (which you probably hear more than other people will) are what make it even better. Really, modern digital recording is what sucks the life and rawness (a good thing) out of music. Some of the best elements about music made in the 60's and earlier is hearing "mistakes" that constitute someone doing something they didn't intend to do that gives the recording an extra verve.

It's funny, but Spike Lucky Designs was just today telling me something similar.
I may yet do this one day. Right now, I am playing with two orchestras (I got accepted into a regular orchestra very recently) and hopefully my goals are twofold: Really get the theory and composition elements down pat, so that I can write orchestral scores to my own music, and then make contacts inside the orchestral scene, and have players willing to put together stuff, mainly with strings and whatever else. As it is, I already have my eye on several players of instruments such as flute and trombone, and I meet new people every day.
I also may yet invest in a set of vibes or even marimba, because I played Vibes in JC, and Marimba in high school...they are expensive, but I feel a need for them in my music, and don't want to rely on keyboards because they just don't sound or feel the same.
There are things in the works, and if I ever did produce a CD it would be the type with extensive liner notes, pictures, artwork. People like Ken Ruzik would actually be at the top of my list for this type of thing...but there would be room for others! (albums have both front AND back)!
I may have to win the lottery first! All of this stuff costs money, and unfortunately I am watching helpless as most of my peers are outpacing and outproducing me, due to lack of funds!
I have to also do some soul searching. Unfortunately I have been kind of getting burned out on the tiki scene. It was something I loved before I ever discovered this forum, and something I will always love long after I am go from here...it's nothing I can really put to words, this feeling of general malaise and dissapointment...time will tell if I get that loving feeling again.
Right now I am more or less making the short/medium term goal of being the absolute best bass player I can be. It's hard work, but I am taking it very seriously and who would have thought that just one year after starting to take classical lessons I would already have passed auditions for a major orchestra? Not me! The task ahead of me is putting enough on my plate to keep me full for a while! 2-3 hours of daily practice of exercises and etudes and orchestral pieces ain't no walk in the park!
Meanwhile, look forward to new tracks (no, not footprints like grog says!) in the next few months. I have many ideas still in my head...and I guarantee they will be dark, scary and something no one else is doing...I will be going deep into the interior! Thank god for the invention of the almighty Gin and Tonic, my favorite cocktail! Malaria is always something to be concerned about when you travel to lonely places, and I heard the quinine in the tonic water might actually help!
