on the new roof and wall one day before we got our first rain in a long long time.

autumn has arrived at last and the cool change is most welcome, for sure.

anyhows, i've got most of the ceiling done...

...will start to line the interior walls tomorrow.

mahalo friends,

i really needed this stuff *out* of my workshop, besides, it won't be too hard to work around now...

not sure about the floor yet, just missed out on some sea grass mat not long ago... spewin'...but have a few ideas.

this will lead out to the bar, which will be about 1.8m/6ft square on the left and the bar seating area will
be bigger and to the right, which will itself lead out to our bbq area...

cheers shipmates...bob.

aloha mates,

now, i know pets aren't Tiki but i'll just go ahead and mention the dog briefly and hope no-one
is too worried about it.

ahoy Chris, we've tried to keep mia's growth down, to maybe help her later on in her life,
but we are now feeding her more raw meat and stuff.

she is now not quite 10 months old and is, of course, an american bulldog, she is no show stopper
with her pink eyes, but we love her to bits.

friends, she really has the sweetest nature and is shaping up to be a great offsider indeed.

thanks for bearing with me everyone and i'll just slip in one last picture of her at about 6 months old...

cheers...bob

Your room is coming together great! And its always good to have a helper hang out while you are working! If I had a chance to do a floor like you do, I would do something with that pebble epoxy stuff that is on the market. Basically you have small workable piles of pebbles that you mix epoxy into and then spread out in 4x4 areas. There are endless color combinations you can get and it would be easy to clean and easy on bare feet. Best of all its sort of indoor outdoor in nature and would work great with your outdoor bar. I have seen a lot of people do it on driveways and around pools. There are tons of people who can do it for you but don't even bother, its just a mix and spread kind of a job. Anyway that's my suggestion. As always keep us posted on your progress.

Regards,

Suicide Tiki

aloha shipmates,

thanks all, for your comments.

spliced the main brace good and proper last night and was well and truly three sheets to the wind,
as the old time sailor men used to say.

consequently only one of about twenty five pictures i took was actually any good...hehehe

that is the doorway in which i stood to take the first pic of the lounge, the "door" is just a sheet of
12mm ply mounted on lift-off hinges and to which i intend to attach a full size ku, carved from poly-urethane foam.

as you can see i've welded up a bracket to carry my guitars - really good to have them safely up off the floor,
and i've mounted one of my masks on a curved length of 5mm rod - if you tap it, it will jiggle for quite a long time.

incidentally, in this and some other pics i've posted, there are some weird perspectives happening
in this room, as that mask is actually bigger than it appears to be...

i haven't shown that wall on the right before as it was very ugly masonry painted white, it's
a little over 5 metres long (inside this room) and you can see about a third of it, the rest
i won't show just yet as it is still under construction.

the chest on the floor under the guitars holds the overflow of lp records that don't fit in my bigger
cabinet that i'll show later when i've Tiki-fied it a bit.

cheers for now... bob

aloha friends,

no new pictures to show just yet but i'm so excited i can barely contain myself, the life size wahine
is up in bali with a couple of her girlfriends and has found for me a great painting which will go a long way
towards finishing the masonry wall i mentioned earlier, a hurdle that i've been struggling to overcome.
i really am like the puppy with two tails right now!!!
she'll be back next tuesday so hopefully i'll have something to show by the end of next week.

cheers all...bob

aloha friends,

crikey, where did that month go?...

anyhow, i got my poly-urethane foam carving done and that's him hangin' on the door..

..and a couple progress pics for anyone interested..

6mm ply backing..(i attached some wire mesh to the ply to help hold him on)..

..lay on the foam..

..i used 9 cans..

..here he is upside down with carving tool of choice...old bread knife..

..if anyone was interested in making themselves something like this
i'd tell them to go buy a slab of commercially available foam because
it has an even density through-out.
free forming it the way i did, there were a lot of voids that had to be filled,
so any money saved by spraying it yourself is lost in the time needed to go back
and patch it all up.

speaking of the voids, i had to go and buy another couple cans of p-u and while at
the hardware store, scored a tin of mis-tinted paint for him at about one fifth
the price, so that was a bonus i guess.

i've also made a little coral reef diorama that was a lot of fun to do...
simple things amuse simple minds i guess..hehehe...
the coral i'd had for years, stashed away, and was just coloured with some
water-colour paint, add some shells, resin fish and plastic aquarium weeds...
yer can't see much detail i'm afraid but it looks quite nice in person...

..top shelf...

next is a sneak peek at the other end of that bloody masonry wall and you'll
see why i didn't show it before.
i still have lots of shells etc. to put on the fishing net, so it may not look
like too much right now, but again, looks pretty good in person...

the opening in the ply will become a faux window, with the painting that
mrs.komohana brought back from bali, in the centre.
also scored some nice tastefull leopard skin to make a backing for that
mask there and enough to re-upholster a club chair i have..

more soon shipmates..
cheers for now, bob.

Kon-Hemsby,

the lei inn is one of my favourite threads and the reason
why the woven ply is from floor to ceiling on the end walls.
