WOW! Great symetry! I think symetry is what seperates the real artists from us wannabees; when you can make 2 exactly alike it shows that the first one didn't just "happen" Love the idea of the negative space in-between the 2 pieces

H10, I'm going to call you next time I struggle to come up with a name for a carving. Will the crisp detail is a result of my visit and seeing your work along with Alohas and a bit 'o Benz. I realized the need to step my game up in the finishing area and so I appreciate that you notice! I would say I average about 16 hours per week, usually doing 6 hours after work and 10 on the weekend. This has been my busiest carving year as I want to do Tiki Caliente in Palm Springs as well as Tiki Oasis in San Diego in 2013. I have done almost 20 this year, although only one big 'un. MDM you MUST think about the negative shapes to accentuate the positive and McTiki I will keep them coming as I have many more ideas than time to carve.

The biggest influence on my carving has to be music, I never work without it. My CD player choked with wood dust long ago and lately I've been listening to local Latino radio so the instruments of this band reflect that. This has to be the first attempt at an accordion playing tiki.
A rare sunny Pacific Northwest December day allowed me this shot with Mt. Hood in the background.
Like a psychedelic Chia pet this thing sprouts each year.

Oh no those fungi are eating that fellow alive. Beautiful work as always. Dan lives for music and plays records and CD's every day. Are you going to Caliente in 2013? I almost said this year but its too soon to say that. Wendy

An accordian playing tiki may just what the doctor ordered for me. Tiki is important to me but not wildly popular in Texxas. Since the accordian is central to Conjunto music, who knows...
My interest in Aztec art has been revived lately and I have several of those in the works along with the tiki projects I'm working on. and the mushroom tiki is so cool...I love it!
Great carving as always.

That mushroom Tiki is beyond words.
You couldn't buy that.
Look how nature arranges them so perfectly abstract.

I always wondered if there was a connection with shrooms and Tiki. Now I have seen it. Excellent work Cy!
Happy new year!

Wendy, besides the naked 3am fire dance by the pool last year (who knew thatch was so flammable?) I was very well behaved and hope Wildsvilleman will have me back in 2013. H10, Will, and McT I look forward to him sprouting a few times a year. I wondered where you hailed from amate, and I am having fun with carving the accordion, especially the bellows, and that Cajun zydeco music cooks! My own uneducated feeling is that tiki was most influenced from South American stylings but don't tell anybody.

Tiki's got a squeeze box he wears on his chest and when Cy gets home he never gets no rest

Damn you Maddog, I have had that song in my head ever since you posted. Glad to see you wandering the halls of the tiki carving section tikiskip- I need to make up in imagination what I lack in carving skills. Thanks for the compliment!
