This Friday, May 6 from 8-10pm, Hulaville will be hosting a free Steel Guitar concert designed to introduce the audience to the many sounds of Steel Guitar. The concert will be performed by Kay Das (and the Orange County Project) who will later be conducting a series of workshops at Hulaville for those who would like to learn or improve their skills on a lap steel guitar.
Kay Das is a steel guitarist with a unique background. An active player, he has produced 12 steel guitar instrumental CDs, many available on cdbaby.com. He has several compositions to his credit and makes his own arrangements. He plays lap steel & pedal steel guitars with a repertoire that covers pop, blues, island, Hawaiian, exotica, country, rock, standards to light classical. Influenced by Garney Nyss, Jerry Byrd, Buddy Emmons & lead guitarist Hank Marvin and studied under Winnie Winston. A regular at steel guitar events and Hulaville kanikapila, he was a recent winner at a Hawaii Music Awards competition, is very active in promoting the steel guitar and has made over 150 recordings. He is a regular contributor to steel guitar and guitar forums world-wide and has performed at public events in the US, UK, Italy, India, and Singapore. He specified the design of the “Steelocaster” which combines the sounds of the Stratocaster guitar with a lap steel guitar.
