Abstract,
I love that pic in front of the Latitude 20 at the Stockton Islander.
Here is the dragster run by Don the Beachcomber Johnson.

Here is a Tiki/Custom connection from the late 50's/early 60's. Image is from a small paperback book titled Hot Rods & Custom Cars Vintage Speed Graphics, published by Taschen, author Coco Shinomiya.
If you browse through the old car magazines you will occasionally see shrunken heads or tiki images on water slide decals or patches. I'll see if I can find a few.

I think Tiki and Hot Rods go hand in had, personally.
Hell Even Hot Wheels is inspiring new tikifiles.

Would love to find one of these hiding in a barn somewhere.

Indeed, but take heed to keep this thread about VINTAGE Hot Rod/custom car culture and any crossover to Tiki there. There is no need to prove the CURRENT connection, which is a pretty obvious fact.

Let's not forget one of our resident artists, BigToe, and his hotrod tiki art. He brings them together quite well. I had the pleasure of meeting him on Sunday at the Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona. His booth was awash with tikis, chicks, hot rods and customs. Great stuff BigToe.

Sabu originally said...
"Anyway, let's devote this thread to images of vintage hot rods and custom cars mixed with tikis or tiki restaurants, as well as discussion and debate about the intersection of the two movements back in the day."
What he meant to say...
"...let's devote this thread to VINTAGE images of hot rods and custom cars mixed with tikis..."
It's all about the HIS-TO-RY !!

Prove schmoove.
Why do we need to PROVE anything? Who exactly are we "proving" this to; nobody's in charge, nobody's taking tickets, there's no test at the end, nobody's completely right and nobody's completely wrong, this isn't a lab experiment or a doctoral thesis, and in every single TC case the deviation from the thread is always the most interesting!
I dig those TNT pics!!! Keep 'em coming!!! Color me gone!!!
