That was a ridiculous artical. Trying to link TO to national current events?? What about an event using escapism for the sake of escapism?

Jeesh come to our event and report! You don’t need to inject your political agenda to fill up space to meet the minimum word count requirements for your stupid blog and call it news.

OOOOOOOOOOOFFFFFF!!!!!
I am wiped out.
Great event as always.
I am bummed that I didn't make any room parties, or seminars.
and wasn't able to buy any tiki art.
But I came back to a Part time job offer,
so that's good.
I'd like to thank Otto for having Kristena and I back to DJ this year.
Hot Rod music at the car show Sat., and spy music by the pool Sun.
Also I would like to thank those that came out to the Car Show
and saw the Los Venturas from Belgium.
They sold all of their cds, and almost all of their t-shirts.
Also I met a bunch of people from other states and a few from other countries
that said that they went to SG101 convention the week before Tiki Oasis, so Mucho Mahalo to those people.

No way Jose !!
I'm sure Tiki purists might be horrified but I consider next year's theme much more Poly Pop relevant from a historical perspective than Spy.

I would like to thank Otto and Doe for putting together another event. They pulled of the event of the year and it showed with thousands of happy Tiki-philes.
Special thanks to the folks behind the scenes: Cammo, Mateo, Belle, Koz, Casey, Jim Giddings, Jaye, Megan, Kitty Kat, Shocker, Patrick, Thomas, Test_subj, Rob Roy.... And many more volunteers (you know who you are) and staff that have helped to make Tiki Oasis the largest and most eleborate Tiki event in the known world.... THE WORLD!
See you all next year!

Thanks Otto, BabyDoe, all the staff and volunteers, the performers, symposium hosts, vendors and room party hosts for yet another great Tiki Oasis.
I managed to attend 3 symposiums this year, and they were all very enjoyable, especially Martin Cate's Cocktail CSI (but that's hardly surprising).
The heat and humidity made me stay out of most room parties, but the ones I checked out from inside (mainly Tonga Hut) were great.
Performance wise I really liked Tikiyaki on Thursday, The Exotics (room party and on main stage), Martini Kings & Sonny Moon (room party and on main stage) and Los Venturas (at the car show).
At the Sunday night show I thought Rob Zabrecky was very entertaining, against my expectations.
This year was the first time we felt comfortable trying to leave our daughter at the Tiki Tot Playroom, and she really liked it. Thanks for providing this option. Maybe it can be extended to Friday morning next year?
See you all next year...
Ran

Yeah, my thanks go out to "Mudmaster" Mad Dog, "Hardware Store" Patrick, "Cool Head" Ikabod, "Dry Clean Only" Jaye, "I Want You for My Nurse" Carla, and Otto and Doe who genuinely care about making every single part of Oasis perfect for both the attendees and the performers, and blending the two together so you can't tell anymore...
and also Mateo, who had at least 5 panic-migraine-complete-mental-breakdowns-blackouts-where's-my-cigs a day...
sorry, Mad Dog and I caused about 3 of them.

I've dragged my mother to T.O. the past three years. Sorry for all the ankles I've clipped with her wheelchair! I really hope she's well enough to attend next year. She's played country steel guitar since the 1950's. And if you play steel, you gotta play some Hawaiian. One of her best groups was Wild Oats (http://www.ibiblio.org/hillwilliam/BGdiscography/?v=fullrecord&albumid=6645) but she also led a pretty wild all-girl group - The Farmer's Daughters - in the 1970's. The crowds, heat and hassle were getting to her a little this year, until she heard the theme for next year. Now she's looking forward to it! See you then!!

Hi, I know the writer (and in fact set up the article) - the angle was of a light hearted and humorous approach, as the piece was posted in both Huff Post and a variation on La Figa, part of FiredogLake.com; both sites known for their politics. The writer is a very cool person, a HUGE fan and supporter of low-brow and pop surrealism art (and the owner of at least two Heather Watts paintings.) She gets it!

Despite my occasional bouts with OCD, I had a lot of fun playing along with this. However, I didn't manage to solve all of the puzzles. Any chance of updating the Inconspicuous Dry Cleaning site with the answers?
Mahalo!

Hi DJLee, While it is always good that our little scene gets some press coverage now & then
Politicizing this years theme was missing the point.
But that's just my opinion
As for next years Theme "Hulabilly" You got the "Hulagirl's" locked down I would think by now
I would like to throw in a vote for "Imelda May" for a headline act for one of the nights.
can you dig it, Otto?

Hello!
This piece was not about literal politics, it was about ironic humor, poking fun at the very blog she writes for! Instead taking the press release and being all deadpan about it, she took it, along with what she knows about the event, and turned it into an entertaining, ironic and funny piece - which points the reader to the art show, car show and marketplace...
She came out to the event during the weekend and will do post-coverage in another blog.
My final word on that, but not the event...I once again had a GREAT time - my absolute favorite weekend of the year (I've been to all 12)! Working on photo albums for all four days (will post on the photo thread) and looking forward to next year --- overalls or Nudie (the designer) suit?
