I'm still waiting to see that "special edition glass available only at the event" the Mahaloween press release mentioned. All I saw were to ceramic mugs!

^^^ Seriously.

We would have more luck on waiting for the new Uh Oa bowl, I assume.

Speaking of, anyone heard anything about a release date?

Kind of surprised the socom people cleared that copy since it is kind of odd to call a ceramic thing a "Glass".

Indeed. But, you raise a good question on the new Uh-Oa's. Hmm....
Keith, heard anything?

New Uh Oa bowl is out today. I still don't see any direct Disney tie-in, so maybe its just a generic tiki bowl that Tiki Farm created specifically for Sam's. It is branded "Trader Sam's. I'll be checking one out on Thursday.

Kkocka, always comes through. Thanks for confirming. I saw one up on ebay over the weekend and wondered it they were out now.

The new design doesn't "wow" me, but I'm sure I'll get one eventually. The cocnut "bowl" part is fine, but the figures on the sides look like proto-Gumby's to me.

Aside from the marking on the bottom, it IS rather non-Disney in design. After the "new" ("1st Edition") Krakatoa was a bit more Tiki Room inspired and the zombie mug is essentially patterned on the Hatbox Ghost, I would have thought the new Uh-Oa design would have more of a direct Disney connection.

Cheers!

I dunno, man. I mean, if they did something closer to Disney/Uh-oa related, then we'd be stepping into the realm of remembering more of the awfulness that was Tiki Room: Under New Management.

And yeah, that's just not good.

Fortunately with the California side of things, most guests don't remember nor ever experienced Under New Management (I agree it was awful though). However, the prior Uh Oa bowl did have motifs from the Enchanted Tiki Room, most notably the four posts which were composed of Ngendei, the Earth balancer.

It was awful, but apparently not so bad to stop them from recycling Uh Oa from Under New Management for the Grog Grotto, at least in concept art.

But that audio animatronic Uh Oa will be a show pleaser for sure - hopefully it doesn't break down a lot, which it probably will.

I had the extreme displeasure of experiencing Under New Management in WDW shortly before the fire that made it "kaput". I wouldn't go so far as to equate a more "Disneyfied" Uh-Oa with that potential danger though. I mean, Sam's IS part of Disneyland; it seems natural that they should be incorporating Disney elements into it. ETR:UNM's did a terrible job of trying to "modernize" a classic with pop songs and a breaking the 4th wall.

Anyway, I'm sure the Grog Grotto will have it's own vibe, but I AM looking forward to checking it out eventually. I hope that tentacle wriggles and writhes. Wish we had some animatronics inside Sam's; maybe one day.

To summarize, butt-hurt over Disney trying to update a dated show.
