And the yellow Krakatoa...I get why most people don't like it. I'm sort of torn down the middle - I never liked the "nacho cheese" orange of the mugs in the past, though this particular color of yellow doesn't seem to be the right fit. If it were a bit darker or saturated I think I'd be down. I do like the more gray-toned matte majority of the mug as opposed to the browner tone. Still, the only Krakatoa mug I own is the red and gray matte from Grog Grotto in Orlando.

i don't find the yellow inherently horrible...if its rich enough might like it....will wait to see better photos...lets be objective here

Peace

Yesterday was the first time I have ever been to the thrift store and DIDN'T buy a Tiki mug that turned up there. I'm actually being selective! It's weird, but I did it!

I saw one pic with a Made in China sticker on the bottom. So definitely not Tiki Farm.

Tiki Farm DOES manufacture a lot of their mugs in China and Mexico.

My mistake I thought they were primarily in Mexico.

Rumor is there's a "2nd edition" of last year's Hitchhiking Ghost mug coming soon to Sam's in Anaheim. Anyone know (a) is this true and (b) any details of the mug or when it may show up? I expect it'll be another nutso scene there if it's true.

Cheers!

The same blog that reported the mug last year is reporting the new version but no details beyond that.

I managed to get one of the WDW ones last year, taking advantage of being there when Hurricane Matthew made a glancing blow through the resort to go to Trader Sam's when they reopened.

It's true, no details on the final glaze though. There should be plenty of mugs this time around. I think Disney learned from their big, big mistake last year.

They also have a financial incentive - they may sell way more while the enthusiasm is high.

If Disney learned anything from last year's situation it was probably: Hey, we should charge MORE for these things!

But, yeah, I'll still drive over there to get mine the day social media lights up like Cincinnati about their release.

Cheers!

Have not heard of this until now, and here's a pic from the Disney Food Blog if you haven't seen it yet. I can't see any tiki in it at all. It's just an "offshore ceramic drink vessel." My guess is that, in a world of budget cuts so you can earn yer bonus, this got assigned to an artist who had little or no knowledge of what constitutes "tiki." (And then it got approved by people who have little or no knowledge of what constitutes "tiki.") Heck, it looks like something that could have been designed and executed offshore. And this came from Disney? Does anyone see any joy in owning and displaying this, other than for its basic value as part of a large never-ending edition of ceramic drink ware? uke:

Nowhere to go but up from here, right? Lol!

You jogged my brain... It is a nod to the Jungle Cruise elephants, and in the context of Trader Sam's, it works and is ok. My comments last night were my first reaction -- before your comment woke me up and made me think about it some more. Since Sam's is a blend of tiki and Jungle Cruise, it fits and works and appeals to many of their fans. But it's still not something I'd want to buy and then put on any shelf in my bar unless I was a hardcore series collector. But even in that case - with the many decades ahead of us with this open-ended and never-ending money-making series of drinkware - there comes a point where some collectors will start having to be a bit selective. I don't think this one will be at the top of anyone's list. But now I do "get it" with the Sam's / Jungle Cruise blend in what is a whimsical seasonal mug.

I am so dang dense sometimes when I'm sober, lol... But I was at work, and in a hurry to leave for a meeting.

One thing I find amusing about Trader Sam's East and West is that Disney has created a way to introduce a segment of their fans to booze and tropical cocktails. The same is true of Jock Lindsay's Hangar Bar at Disney Springs.

This is a nod to the 'Jingle Cruise' overlay of the Jungle Cruise that they've done the last few Christmases. Of course this year they're nly doing the overlay in Florida while they sell this mug in California....

I've already arranged for somebody in California to buy one for us. Not because its tiki, but because my wife loves elephants and she's one of those "Christmas people" (we have 14 artificial trees in our house this year and we spent Black Friday spending 5 hours each decorating the outside of the house) so she loves this combination.

That makes good sense, sounds like you'll have a very good home for that design.

It's interesting to hear of an overlay in Florida though. I have heard that they avoid overlays so they don't cause "disappointment" for foreign travelers who have certain attractions on their bucket lists. They do not want them to come visit and then find them altered for a holiday. So no Haunted Mansion or Small World overlays here ever... I guess Jungle Cruise / Jingle Cruise isn't in that same echelon of attractions?
