"Brother can you spare a Dime?"

This once was a friend, one you called brother.
But this was the kind from another Mother.
Fell on hard times no money for dues.
Now he's forgotten, out of mind like old news.

"Brothers for life" till you don't send the check.
Seems like his frat family was more of a faker, not friends at all, just fronting, a taker.
Hold up the Moai? keep them standing?
Looks more like to you the money they are handing.

At a time when this "brother" he needed you most 2s and 5s let him down, history, Toast.
"one big family" is what you would boast, when it's all about you their "demiurge" host.
His health it is failing, and a child that is sick, you all send money to Easter Island? man what a dick.

Tiki was here before you, and will be long after.
Lord knows how long folks will buy your shuck and jive, as you surround yourself with your sacred five.

Words of wit, to never forget.
Not mine.

First rule is.. The laws of Germany

Push through it with repetition. Smother it with words. Deny the air around me. Pretend. Pretend with vigor. Believe that the breath is gone.

Passion flower withers in frost. Spent jackolanterns. Red eyes flash with resentment at what night regrets. Not the lanterns eyes. My own.

It hurts to remember it. I'll drive home soon.. Maybe another old hawk. Never finding the one who holds my head close and says, "I know.

Nothing that will make God come looking for good times. Nothing would impress the Buddha. Nothing that will make Ezekiel's wheels spin.

What would make them shut up and suddenly pay attention? Explosions across the street? Sex offered? New drugs? Art?

..That her late husband was waiting for her there. This is not oblivion to me. Total loss of self hood. No relatives. No friends. Blackness.

Sweet lovely death, I am waiting for your breath. Come sweet death..

Though rum and beer giggle and wink and keep me on the chase. No bed until I give up on them. Alcohol is such a slut. Crickets are ashamed.

My tree is empty save for me. The odd duck. No claws left. No sharp beak. Eagle eyes and a mind that wants to forget the freedom of flight.

I want the "big final". The test of my beliefs. Christ riding Nessie on a tidal wave into my bedroom to bring me my love and purpose

You know, with the unfortunate Americans who have to put up with your ill-mannered asses. Your merit badge society is widely regarded as the Scientologists of tiki: the perpetual drunk uncles who are culturally (and I suspect genetically) incapable of enough self-awareness to know how embarrassing you are to your families. I suppose that's why you feel like you have to beat off here once a year—because you can't get your wives to do it. Found on eBay, Not my auction.

Questions and answers about this item
Q: Hi If you do not happen to sell this tiki light I would like to offer you $100. for it. if you would find my offer to be fair I would buy it right away.
A: Ordinarily, I wouldn't even respond to such a lowball offer but you caught me on a good day. I would set it on fire and drive over it with my car before accepting your $100.

Tigers, considered to be brave, cruel, forceful and terrifying, are the symbol of power and lordliness. In ancient times, people usually compared emperors or grandees with the tiger. Court officials often said that 'accompanying the emperor is just like being at the side of a tiger'. There are also many legends on hunting tigers dealing with struggling against evil might.

Strengths
They are tolerant, staunch, valiant, and respected. They like challenges and speed and they are active and good at expressing themselves. They have strong sense of errantry, be frank and easy to win others' trust. In their middle age, their fate may be uneven, but afterwards will enjoy a bright prospect. Most women under the tiger sign are intelligent, faithful and virtuous.

Weaknesses
Their shortcoming is to project themselves before others. They are given to deep thinking and capable of great sympathy, however, they can be short-tempered without interest with long-term endeavor. Sometimes, they come into conflict easily with the seniors and people in authority. Their hasty mind and decision may cause poor results. They are over confident and traitorous, which may result in unsuccessful communication and cooperation with others.

the market house story
The Old Market House Inn Restaurant, situated across the street from the site of Zanesville's original farmers' market, preserves an era of pioneer Zanesville while offering a gourmet menu in an atmosphere of the bygone days.

Farmers drove their wagons filled with produce to the first small, one-story market built in 1814. The second market, built in 1832, supplied an increasing population with meat and vegetables. In 1863 a heavy snow crushed the roof, causing a tragic collapse of the bustling marketplace.

The third farmers' market opened in 1864. In consisted of a first floor for market and a second floor for city offices. Hundreds of farm wagons would be hitched to trees and posts for several blocks in all directions three days a week. Cabs and drays clattered up Market Street from two railroad stations. Hotels with large dining rooms eventually opened their doors to accommodate the increasing commerce in Zanesville. On such hotel and the Barnett which stood on the site of the present-day Old Market House Inn.

The third market place was destroyed by fire in 1912. After a long controversy, the present building was completed in 1919 and serves Zanesville for nearly thirty years. After World War II, area residents began to patronize supermarkets and in 1946 the final farmers' market was closed and the entire building converted to city offices.

In 1974 James L. Adornetto Purchased this building, then known as the Casino Restaurant, from Tony Saup. Mr. Adornetto engaged Coburn Morgan, a renowned restaurant designer from Columbus, Ohio. Using London, England's oldest operating riverside pub, the prospect of Whitby, as a model, they orchestrated an extensive nine-month renovation of the historic building. In October of 1974 the present Old Market House Inn opened its doors.

Jim Adornetto, born and raised in Zanesville, has been a successful restaurateur in the city for over 50 years. He opened his first restaurant, Adornetto's Pizzeria, at the age of 19. In 1994, Mr. Adornetto opened Giacomo's Bread & Deli in the building north of Adornetto's Pizzeria, featuring European hearth-style breads and Italian deli with made to order sandwiches and soups.

Sociopaths never answer facts; they always attack the messenger

Another very valuable red flag to recognize when trying to spot a sociopath is to see how they deal with attacks on their own integrity. If a sociopath is presented with a collection of facts, documents and evidence showing that he lied or deceived, he will refuse to address the evidence and, instead, attack the messenger!

If you really try to nail a sociopath down to answering a documented allegation, they will quickly turn on you, denounce you, and declare that you too are secretly plotting against them. Anyone who does not fall for the brainwashing of the sociopath is sooner or later kicked out of the circle and then wildly disparaged by the remaining members of the cult group.

How to spot a sociopath - 10 red flags that could save you from being swept under the influence of a charismatic nut job (MOF)

Vintage bronze-over brass, Large Rearing Horse Sculpture. Removed from the original Kahiki many years ago. Rubbing the ear or the legs of the horse was thought to bring good luck to the guest. Part of the magical mystery that the founders of the Kahiki instilled at its inception. A beautiful patina has settled on this vintage piece. You can feel the energy as you as you wonder at the many hands, both famous delegates and stars as well as countless local residences alike. Our research shows this to be similar to other such castings that are reportedly "from the Japanese Meiji Period."
Size: 56" tall to top of Mane and 27" wide.
Condition: Beautiful natural condition!

Antique carved-wood 'Chinese Elder sculpture with Child' holding a Chinese bat. In Ancient Chinese society, a bat was a symbol of Happiness and Longevity - this hand carved sculpture is big, over 4ft tall! All wood with painted and applied gesso (like the picture frames from the 1920's) and then gilded with a gold tone finish.
Size: 52 1/2" tall. Base is 18" x 16".
Condition: Wood has dry-split from natural occurring climate changes and age. Some paint loss, but its acceptable and supporting the age of this item, adding character. The bat the child is holding is also cracked - see picture.

For 46 years (37 in their Rosemead location), Bahooka Restaurant in the San Gabriel Valley was a festive Angeleno favorite... a Polynesian paradise filled with 105 built-in aquariums. And at the center of that paradise was beloved Rufus, a giant fish in his 30s who never met a carrot he didn't like. After decades of being surrounded by human friends, Rufus' job as a greeter ended when Bahooka closed in March of 2013.

Sadly, since that time Rufus has been swimming alone in the dark and the new owners (I believe the property has changed hands twice now) don't want a giant fish tank on the property any longer. Our goal is to give Rufus his livelihood back, and to relocate him to a place that he will once again be greeted and loved by his human friends.

Finding a home for giant 37 year old Rufus isn't as easy as you might think... he's a bit of a special needs child. Since Rufus is a pacu -- an omnivorous South American freshwater fish that's related to piranha -- he has to live in an isolated tank by himself or with other pacu. (Interesting factoid: a key difference between a pacu and a piranha is that piranha have sharp teeth, while pacu have squarer, straighter teeth, like a human... which is why he is able to eat carrots!) Most local aquariums focus on salt water and most restaurants don't have the space for him but we've got three potential candidates who are interested (two tiki themed restaurants and one major aquarium).

This fund will come into play as soon as we have a final approval on a final location that seems right for Rufus. This money will NOT go to Hidden Los Angeles. We are solely raising money to pay for Rufus and his tank, to help with his moving costs and any added expenses, as well as hopefully help with some of his future upkeep costs. We don't want Rufus' new owners to be burdened with costs or stress for taking him on, we want it to be a great and easy experience. Rufus just needs to find a great home and swim in the light again.

Thanks to everyone for caring!

Side note: For those who have offered to take Rufus into your homes, everyone sincerely appreciates your generosity more than you know. Our primary goal has been to find an environment for Rufus that is as close to his life at Bahooka as we can though, so we're looking for a place where he'll surrounded by visitors who appreciate him.

Sean Ries Is "Tanked" still on the air? Contact the producers, it would make for a great storyline for their show so maybe they would donate the tank.

Hidden Los Angeles We've been speaking to Wayde today.

Hidden Los Angeles Here's the thing... Pacu will grow to the size of their tank. It doesn't matter how large the tank is, it will end up seeming too small as he expands to fit it. At Rufus' age, if he was put into a larger tank and grew, it would not be good for him. His heart and organs would grow and it would not necessarily extend his life... It could actually shorten it. He's an old guy.

Very long winded post – you’ve been warned. You are free to move on, don’t bitch about the length if you decide to read. I took up no real estate in this thread for 22 pages so just consider this my catch up.

Having spent a lot of Sunday at the former Bahooka…some thoughts (with some of your quotes)

Quote:

If the new owner wants the money, then he has to get it only under the condition that Rufus's current situation is disrupted as little as possible. I would still have major trust issues, though, as I agree that it seems at least on the surface that the new owner really just wants the money to go toward his remodel and he couldn't care less about Rufus and the other fish.

“on the surface” should be the key point of your post here.
How many of you have actually SPOKEN to the new owner, considering all the accusations. I have looked back in this thread a bit, and I see you people referring to him as a “scumbag, whack job, opportunist, hostage taker.” Really?

One would think by some of your attitudes that he was tossing the fish out back in the trash. Far from the truth. After buying the place, he perhaps wanted them out, and put out the word to find them homes, so he can get his business going. This wasnt just one or two tanks taking up some space. This is a WHOLE BUILDING full of tanks that need to be powered and not disturbed until they have new homes. Downtime is money lost. I would think any reasonable business owner trying to start a new place would want them out sooner than later - hard to do much till they are. What is so horrible about this to deserve this angry mob and public ridicule?

I am guessing he perhaps saw all the fish with the same mind (unlike many of you that don’t express any care of the rest of the animals in there) – why would he be expected to have knowledge or any value of one fish in particular buying the place from a party that was NOT Bahooka? But wow – that makes him a scumbag?? Why is it a crime – for someone that bought a building, to want that building cleared, and then suddenly realize the value of something in that building and the risk moving it and then deciding to keep it there, though such a change in plan would involve a fair amount of new money to have to spend? Do any of you have an extra 12K sitting around you can just come up in a moments notice? You all think hes a “scumbag” but the fact that most of you here seem to ONLY care about ONE of the fish rather than all the fish is stranger to me, never mind that you ONLY care about money going to Rufus IF he is going to be moved – the more risky choice for his health. Some of you - your thinking is strange to say the least as you claim to have Rufus’s best interest in mind.
and to whoever said “the problem is Chinese restaurants come and go” and it will “likely go out of business soon..not the greatest location”.
Really? I would correct your statement and say MANY restaurants come and go of ALL TYPES even in great locations. I can also point you to many Chinese restaurants that have been around here for 20 years +. You think Rufus will live another 20 years? Who knows…
Anyway, there are a TON of apartments around there – and a lot of Asian people not far – so what do you base this on?

All that said…(no Im not done yet)

. . . . One thing I can assure you: These funds will NOT go to the new Bahooka owner. They were raised specifically to purchase Rufus from him and help cover the costs of moving him to a new home.

So what if Rufus (an extremely old Pacu who has had only ONE HOME for 37 years) didn't survive the move across town? What if Rufus literally died the day of or the next day?
WHO would the mob here all blame then? Still the new "Bahooka" owner, even if he had already offered to build Rufus a bigger tank right there - perhaps asking for a little help with funding – esp seeing that people WANT to help fund his care. Seems like a reasonable thought on the new owners part to decide to keep the fish there, hope to get help with funding when he sees it already happening.

Also, what would happen to the money donated if Rufus DIES DURING THE MOVE?
I feel like some of you would STILL just say “oh well, at least we got Rufus out of the hands of this “scumbag” business owner none of us know, but already apparently hate on at least 10 different levels”

Do you people actually care about Rufus (never mind any of the other fish) and what is best for Rufus or only that it all goes the way you want it to, even though moving the fish across town is clearly the riskier choice for its health and well being?

A tasteless act which is destined to fail. While Damon's would get great press by saving Rufus, the new owner deserves only heckling for holding Rufus hostage.

let me get this straight...
So Damon's would get great press for the welfare of Rufus (if he survived the move which you would ALL rather risk than anything else) but, if new owner perhaps builds a much bigger tank...making the move across town NOT NECESSARY, he gets only heckling and gets no support for the new fish tank, AND is considered a "hostage taker".

That's a bit dramatic don't you think?
btw, that tank hasnt been appropriate for that fish for years – I don’t care what the handwritten sign on it says!

...never mind that funds that were specifically donated for "Rufus care" according to all of you, WONT go for helping Rufus after all, because a new (Rufus-appropriate) tank at the SAME LOCATION, avoiding much risk to Rufus, wouldn't need funding?? Big bad business man should have an extra 12K to spend on such a thing? So NONE of you feel a bit relieved a move wouldn't have to happen and want your money to go to Rufus WHERE HE IS? Do any/all who donated get a say? (Thanks whoever veered me from donating btw, now that I know this is the case)

Are you really interested in whats best for Rufus or not, because it SEEMED that was the whole point of this thread - which I was reminded of so clearly by ATP....
“The only thing important in this thread is finding a home for Rufus
& I for one will stay focused on that goal.”
What ATP failed to say was “…but only if we move Rufus regardless of the risk to his health…if new owner keeps him, we will write him off and keep all our “Rufus care” money out of his hands.

SO…..hypothetically….MAYBE the new owner will have a hard time finding the funds for a 2000 gallon tank that he is CURRENTLY TRYING TO FUND TO BUILD. (any idea how much that cost anyone?) You all will make sure NONE of your donated money “for Rufus” goes into this tank at Rufus's CURRENT location...and MAYBE in the end - new owner will give up again (as you predict) having not found the funds, and say Rufus has to move - then you people who donated (when you stop seething with anger) will have your money go to the tank at Damons...Rufus gets moved to Damons and then dies the next day as the whole ordeal was too stressful on him - or perhaps there is an accident. Then will all of you still just feel so good that you donated...but ONLY under the terms that Rufus is moved, which ends up being what killed him?

Anyway, for those still reading…I had the PLEASURE of spending the better part of Sunday AT Bahooka with Jorge, Fez, and one other tied to the place (cant remember his name). All 3 were kind, fantastic and generous people. It was great to spend time in the place, chatting with Fez about Bahooka memories... Sad to see it in its state – but it still looked and smelled like Bahooka in many respects. I met and got to speak with the owner A TINY BIT and got to hear him speak about the Rufus/fish issue (Fez doing most of the talking). The owner seemed a very nice and genuine guy - who is trying to do the right thing here. I only came away from the conversation feeling like a FEW of you should get off the boards and live a little more in the REAL world instead of doing so much judging from behind your computer screens. I don’t claim to know all about this whole situation – but I already see how many of you are wrong about several things. I’m not here to report what I learned. I feel info is only spiraling in the wrong direction with some of you and I don’t want to speak for anyone else anyway. My point is to just say some of you should relax and stop going into immediate mob mentality and trying to ruin reputations of people you don’t know.
Or, continue doing what you are doing. Wind each other up on this thread over rumors and bits of hearsay and donate money for a cause, claim you have Rufus as your priority - but then withdraw ANY support for him if it doesn't go how some of you want it to go - which, just happens to be the more hazardous route for Rufus.
You can all feel good behind your computer screens, but in the end, with all your spite, you did little to affect his future.
twisted up SLACTIVISM at its finest.
Your spite wont help build a new tank, at his current location, the SAFEST route for Rufus.

Fez is clearly a great guy (not that I assumed any different) who clearly has a passion about what was Bahooka (as I myself do) - and after finding the marketplace thread the other night and reading all the posts from many of you to/about him, questioning his actions, morals, intent, and everything else....well, I just kind of feel embarrassed for some of you.

I certainly don't understand what I did to get hostility from a few of you but, whatever. Apparently new people aren't very welcome here judging not by just my experience but what I saw some of you say to/about Fez in other threads. Not that I was looking for any new "community".

My intent here was to find out the situation with Rufus, the other fish, the tanks, and to thank all involved in actually trying to help make sure they were ok. I came out with perhaps a couple great new friends I met this weekend, and a much better understanding of the situation OFF THESE BOARDS than I was getting trying to question the angry mob here.
Thanks to those who WERE helpful.
