What says Christmas more than…mermaids & Santa underwater?!
This Friday & Saturday, Dec 7 & 8 2012, Weekie Wachee Springs presents the annual WINTER WATERLAND CHRISTMAS SHOW
Famous Mermaid of Yesteryear, Lydia checked in with Tiki Bree to share the deets of this can't-miss holiday treat.

"The formers (former mermaids) are swimming (in) the Christmas Show. We will be doing 2 numbers and the young mermaids will be doing two numbers in tails. They needed us because some of the young mermaids are swimming at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta in December. The young mermaids will show first then we (former mermaids) will swim Feliz Navidad and the end with Santa underwater. Christmas Mermaids will be posing w/ Santa somewhere in the park! The Travel Channel will be filming us on Friday Night."

If you are planning on visiting this weekend, keep in mind that the park closes early both days, 4pm, and reopens at 6pm for the Winter Waterland experience. All guests visiting the park during the day will have to exit by 4. When the park reopens at 6 admission will be
$5.00 adults, $3.00 children.
mermaid shows are 7:00, 8:00, and 9:00 PM

I'll update this thread to share news featuring Weeki Wachee's world famous mermaids.
...see ya in the watah, Tiki Bree

Christmas at the springs was enchanting! The entire grounds were aglow with festive lights while the local community provided entertainment, a petting zoo, nativity & the works. The Mermaids of Yesteryear performed a sparkling show in their sequined mini dresses, and the lovely current mermaids delighted the audience with their special rendition of "Santa Baby."
In the finale, underwater Santa spread holiday cheer pulling his sled loaded with mermaids.

I forgot to credit the photographer in the previous post, it is Julie Komenda, Weeki Wachee's artist in residence.
This week the newspaper "Hernando Today" did a marvelous article about Julie's mermaid art:

Virginia Sole-Smith has written a most magnificent article for the New York Times about Weeki Wachee Mermaids.

Here's a link to a New York Times article about the mermaids.

Just in from John Norris from Friends of Weeki Wachee:

"Dear Friends of Weeki Wachee State Park,
If there is an interest in helping the park on a scheduled basis and doing a function that is non-physical, then the museum collections is for you. Working in a environmentally controlled Mermaid cottage researching, accessioning and preserving the history of Weeki Wachee."
