Tiki Oasis 14: "Beat-Tiki" weekender offers a unique pairing of the Beatnik and Tiki ethos. Like the Beat Generation of legend and lore, today's Tiki aficionados are drawn to primitivism and thirst to reconnect with the primal past, celebrating it in a modern context. Spend a carefree weekend in an urban oasis amidst fellow barefoot bohemians, reveling in the kind of art, music, literature and mixology that is sure to flip your lid!
Tiki Oasis' "Beat-Tiki" weekender will quell your wanderlust, quench your thirst, and leave you with life-fulfilling memories.
In the spirit of Beat literati, The Beat Museum (San Francisco) will host a pop-up bookstore as well as an expanded booksigning event. There will be several scheduled and spontaneous poetry readings by well-known and unknown authors and poets. And we have increased the number of educational symposiums: Learn about the proto-hippie, flute-playing poet, composer, naturalist, and urban explorer Eden Ahbez with researcher/author Brian Chidester; The heart of the Venice Beach Beatnik scene is examined by author Domenic Priore; Beat era artist, original Disney Imagineer, and creator of the Tiki Room Tikis, Rolly Crump, shares his thoughts; Author/curator/world renown Tiki expert Sven Kirsten; Mid-Century/Hanalei Hotel architect John Mock; Charles Phoenix and many more.

You aren't kidding! I was on the final confirmation page during check-out of a stage view room and the room disappeared. So for now we have the golf course side.
Nonetheless, tickets purchased and hotel booked. See everyone in August.

Links are live. And if you're looking for a stage view room, keep trying. I had a stage view room with 2 queen beds open up as I was refreshing the reservation site. So stage view it is! I'm ready to pack up the lead sled!

Thanks for the tip, Kevin.
I booked Golf view because that's all that was available - Read your post then went back to change, refreshed a couple times & "stage/pool view" came up.
Cool, Daddio!

Dealing with the constant refreshing and panic when you see a JAVASCRIPT: VOID error when trying to reserve a room is like totally squaresville, Daddy-O!
Mission Accomplished.

I just learned of this and we booked flights and hotel rooms. Can't wait. It looks like such fun. Any advice for a few newbies and first timers to tiki oasis?

Join the Facebook group -- just search Tiki Oasis--because the majority of information will be posted there.
As far as advice :
Go easy at The Bali Hai (thursday's meet and greet) because if you drink the cocktails are STRONG and will sneak up on you. Nothing worse than starting the weekend off with a major hangover.
Drink water--lots of it!
Bring sunscreen--the San Diego sun can be brutal and even if you don't go swimming you will be running back and forth from inside to outside and you will get burned
Bring an extra empty carry on for stuff you buy. You can always ship it home too.
Room parties are the big draw at Oasis -- they happen at night in the big suite rooms so check the elevators for flyers adverstising room #s/theme/start times. Don't miss Tiki Hell--BEST room party every year!
Tiki Oasis is full of the friendliest people so talk to folks every chance you get. This is no time to be shy
Also check out threads on past Tiki Oasis events on Tiki Central to get an idea of the event as a whole.

I love City Lights Bookstore. I met Allen Ginsberg there and took a photo with him and he signed a book for me. I have a Minor in Creative Writing from UC Berkeley and took a couple of classes in prose in the mid-90's.
