Great article!

Picasso's most famed period was inspired by tribal or "primitive" art, and he had a vast collection of African and Oceanic art.

One of the reasons I don't like the equation of "kitsch" and "tiki," which (to me) are anything but synonymous.

But opinions on this vary.

I feel the same way about " kitsch" I don't like to equate it with tiki. I've always had the eye for a higher style of tiki anyway. Its been my experience up until recently that kitsch was kind of meant as a slam. I can remember finding an original Herman Miller bubble lamp in a thrift store in MT for 2 bucks about 20 yrs ago and the lady in the isle with me said in her most condescending manner " Oh I see you like that kitsch stuff" ( and in my head I said back to her FU bitch)
