Did not know what Hákarl was so I looked it up and found this...

Icelanders enjoy recounting the reaction of Anthony Bourdain who described the delicacy as “the single worst, most disgusting and terrible tasting thing.” Andrew Zimmern had a similar reaction, and even more disturbing, the smack-talking Gordon Ramsey reportedly vomited after eating it.

Andrew Zimmern! my god if he don't like it, dam.
Saw that guy eat African DIRT!
Sounds like the smell of that stuff could get your bags checked or refused.

HA!
So what does hákarl taste like? Some say the flavor is similar to the taste of broken dreams.

Without sounding like a Londoncentric snob , really good liquor stores are hard to find outside of London , big supermarkets may be the best bet - Waitrose being top of the food chain .
As mentioned above Gin is all the rage here , we have about 320 makers so there should be something you can't get at home. Hendicks and Sipsmith being my faves.
If you do get to swing by London then half way between Gerrys in Soho and Trader Vics is hedonism.co.uk a whole new kind of destination liquor store with stratospheric prices to match and a must see collection of wines and spirits .
Enjoy .

"Gin is all the rage here"

Yeah I was thinking a Sloe gin would be one I would get.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Getting ready to leave on Saturday, and super excited. Hope I come home with a few special bottles - or drink a few while I'm there!

Jeff, you are going to have a GREAT time with those! I've been exploring more gins the past 5 years or so. I read your list with great interest -- truly amazing, and fun.

I had to look up what hakarl is - whoa!

Cheers!
