Ladies and Gentlemen, and Esquivel fans,
It is my pleasure to invite you to this great musical celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Juan García Esquivel, or as we know him, Esquivel!
I will direct and perform with the Orquesta Nacional de Jazz de México (National Jazz Orchestra of Mexico), which will perform 22 of my transcriptions and arrangements of the works of Esquivel, covering his time as a bandleader and composer/arranger in Mexico City in the 50s, when he was writing and recording with the star vocalists of the day such as Pedro Vargas, María Victoria, and Toña La Negra, all the way through the 80s, including his work with Burbujas, the kids show here in México that's still popular today.
It will be a night of many firsts, including expansions of material previously recorded in a smaller format and expanded to the instrumentation of the full 22 piece orchestra.
There will be special guest soloists in the lineup, and it is my honor to be able to include Suzanne Long among the guest soloists! Not only a world renowned rum and cocktail expert, but a fantastic vocal talent, as a lyric soprano.
The concert will take place at the Teatro de la Ciudad Esperanza Iris.
