Some kind folks posted the below link on TC a couple of weeks ago. It offers a free downloadable double CD of modern exotica and other loungy sounds. There's some great stuff there.

I'm also a big fan of "classic" style exotica i.e. Martin Denny, Arthur Lyman, Robert Drasnin etc. The only modern band I've heard that even comes close is Don Tiki but they don't go quite far enough. I really like the sound of vibes, piano some congas and bass together like that. Definitely has a feel that's hard to come by these days.

Do a search on these boards for french group Roudoudou. Also try the Vanduras.

I second Selector Lopakas above suggestion. I've been downloading that stuff. It's great! It's definitely not all classic style exotica, but a good smorgasboard style and sounds. Do check it out.

Roudoudou!! I have been looking for their music here in the US ever since I saw their way cool website linked from TC, and have had no luck. I have one track, "Just A Place In The Sun", on an electronica mix out of the Netherlands. I think they're strictly import. I'm also partial to Seattle's Lushy who interpret exotica nicely at times, and has a new CD:

One of my recent favorites that feels exotica-ish (to me at least) is a duo called Boozoo Bajou out of Germany. They are filed under electronica, and their debut album, Satta, is full of beat and sample oriented tropical feeling soundscapes that are perfect for beverage sipping and daydreaming.

I'm a good friend of Roudoudou (i used to do mix session with him...)so i could have his album and send it to you...
But maybe the easier way is to it on Amazon. The music is not old school exotica, more electronic side of it (but very good side). Take the "just a place in the sun" album, the first one is more classic trip hop. If you want another french band, try the ukulele club de Paris (also on amazon.fr, the french version), wich is a fantastic band of ukulelists, with an album cover by Shag.

And while not completely authentic, or maybe even close, don't miss Lushy from right here in Seattle. Some of their tunes hit the right vibe (heh, no pun intended)..
Free streams off lushy.com so you can get a feel there -- you can buy their cd on Amazon, etc.
