In my musical travels, I have come across two names not often associated with "exotica" proper, but I think there might be a connection at least, however thin...

I am talking for starters about Mancini, and his excellent songs "Hatari" and "sounds of Hatari"....Put these songs on your hi-fi, crank it to 11, and enjoy a mai-tai or voodoo themed drink as you do!

Another person of interest to me is the avante-garde trumpeter Jon hassell..his album "Earthquake island" has always intrigued me..the music is very world/jazz fusion oriented, but with an exotic feel..and the liner notes could have been lifted from any early 60's exotica album..has anyone else out there heard Jon hassell?
