We recently finished up the Crawl, and it was a blast! If you've not seen the photos, check them out!
I wanted to personally thank everyone for continuing the tradition of is being such a wonderful event. I'd like to call out a few key people and places that really stood out this year:
Thanks go out to the following people:
- Nacho, who worked nonstop to kick out a wonderful Tiki Mug design (plus other stuff!) in record time.
- DJs Dean "The Jab" Curtis and Otto Von Stroheim for kicking out the exotic tunes on Friday night.
- The Maikai Gents & Project: Pimento for making the Tiki Crawl sound better than it has in years. It's excellent to see great bands play inside of true Tiki bars.
- The folks at Rhum Clement who generously donated spirits.
- Everyone who brought food on Sunday.
- Al, Blair, Midnight, Jason, Megan, Chad, Humu, Mark, Kate, Boris, and everyone else who I am forgetting who helped move boxes, carried ice, loaded & unloaded, counted heads, guarded mugs, handed out badges, wrangled name tags, hosted out-of-towners, transported mugs, loaned out iPods, and overall made life easier for everyone on the Crawl. We appreciate all the effort you guys put in to an event where you should be relaxing and enjoying.
Thanks go out to management and staff of our Crawl locations:
- Trader Vic's Emeryville: This was truly the best finale to a Tiki Crawl we've ever had. They bent over backwards to give us a great experience in their main dining room, with astounding drink specials and their trademark food.
- Trader Vic's Palo Alto: This was most memorable South Bay crawl yet, and it was fantastic to have Trader Vic's Palo Alto anchor it in their bar and Mai Tai lounge while hosting live music.
- Conga Lounge: The Conga always pulls out all the stops for the Crawl, and this time was no exception -- featuring pizza by the slice, the Limbo competition, and perhaps the best drink special of the Crawl: drink and a mug for $15.
- Kona Club: This place worked some last minute magic to staff up and handle our thirsty crawlers and feature their fantastic barware.
- Bamboo Hut: They worked the bar hard for us and tackled the last-minute turn-table issues to give us a classic exotic experience.
- Forbidden Island: They were able to host the first stop on Main Event day with a full menu, their own mug release, and the Crawl's mug release, seemingly effortlessly!
- Smoke Tiki: Smoke did a wonderful job of hosting us on a very special day for them: the home game of the season for the San Jose Sharks.
- Trad'r Sam's: Once again both the bartender and the regulars greeted us with the Aloha spirit and treated us to a wonderful time at Sam's.
- Tonga Room: As always, the Tonga Room gave us their classic Crawl experience on par with previous years.
If you enjoyed yourself at these locations, feel free to Yelp about your Crawl experience there! They'd appreciate it.
And last but not least, I'd like to thank
Martin "Martiki" Cate, and Bill "Mai Tai" Graff. These co-organizers of the Crawl took up a ton of responsibilities and really went overboard in helping out the event. It is an understatement to say that the Tiki Crawl 8 would have been a fraction of the event it was without their hard work, dedication, and friendship. Mahalo!
See you all in 2009, if not before!
